G’Day. As it’s my first review I’m just going to blurt it all out.
Mandriva One is the Live Linux cd for Mandriva. And just for fun we’re testing the release candidate 2 “Sunna” as this should be pretty close to the real thing.
As I’m a KDE user, we are using the KDE3 disc which does include proprietory drivers & software.
Mandriva 2007 rc2 “Sunna”
Right now you have a choice of 1 DVD(dual arch, ie. i586 & x86_64), 2 x 3 CDs(one for each arch) & 14 One CDs.
Key Packages:
- kernel 2.6.17
- kde 3.5.4
- Mozilla Firefox 1.5
- OpenOffice.org 2.0.3
- 3D desktop with compiz (XGL & AIGLX)
- new la-ora theme
For this review, I’ll be using both the “live” and the install from live features.
Test System:
- Athlon 1.2gHz Thunderbird
- 512mb SDram
- ATI Radeon 9550 (AGP)
- AC/97 inbuilt sound
- D-Link DWL-G520 802.11b/g (SuperG) Wireless
Now, for a bit of background. I’ve been a user of Mandriva (Mandrake) back since 9.2, however I’ve as yet not been able to make the permanent switch from WinXP to linux on the desktop. On my servers however is a different story as they have only ever run Mandriva(Mandrake) Linux.
2007 looks very promising on the specs – especially with the much hyped XGL/AIGLX + Compiz 3D desktop and a new network configuration tool. This may just be what I require to do the big move.

I’ve decided to make it all a bit easier on everyone. You now no longer are required to register to comment!
However, if I get a bit too much spam, then that may be rethought. You have been warned.
Otherwise – Enjoy!
Server problems again.
Culprit: Dead Memory & lack of memory.
Solution: New memory (duh!) and more of it.
Now thankfully the pages load in a reasonable time (<1s) and we can get on with what is most important – that is working out what to do next.
Well I figured that if i’m going to be writing my opinions up here, then i figure that i’m going to cop a bit of flak (criticism) about being biased already on stuff. So if i’m going to be flamed (criticised profusely) then it might as well be correct.
As we go along i’ll be adding to the Bias List (avaliable on the right) so as to keep you from getting confused about it all. To start it all off I’ve listed a few for you to enjoy.
Everyone can now register to comment on the site, now that the emailing issue is fixed.
Enjoy
Hi!
What a small start for a brand new blog.
I’m cyprix, otherwise know as Sam Bailey (see about page). I’m a young aussie web developer living in Melbourne, Australia and a couple of days ago just turning the ripe old age of 21. This is all new to me, sooo…
This blog will contain a bit about everything, but as being Planet Cyprix, everything will be related to me and my views on stuff, even if it’s just that I saw it somewhere else and wanted you to know. Overall it’s mainly going to be tech stuff.
Being new to all this, I’m just going to leave the default look that wordpress has for now, at least until I can find the time to organise what I want it all be like. If that is a problem for you, please leave a comment with contact details which I will forward onto enjoybutidontreallycare@maybethisplacedoes.com, else if you have ideas or graphics designing skills (which I don’t – something to do with being colourblind) feel free to comment.
Well whatever you do or where you are, I hope that you enjoy whatever you find here.
P.S. just checked, and the emails for new registration is not working yet, I’ll post again when it is fixed.
